Statement from Eric Butler

Please consider me as a candidate for the open DCCA Board of Directors position. My wife and I have lived in Downing Creek for the past three years. We have two young children and enjoy Downing Creek’s family centered activities, neighborhood parties and facilities (especially the playground and pool). Also, we enjoy the neighborhood’s natural setting coupled with its proximity to Chapel Hill and highway access. It is truly a wonderful place to raise a family.

Personal Qualifications:

I am a licensed North Carolina attorney. I am also licensed to practice law in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. I have seven (7) years practice experience in real estate/title law, real estate/title litigation and commercial litigation which has, on occasion, touched on HOA related legal issues. u

Vision:

I think Downing Creek should nurture its family focused orientation. Also, Downing Creek should preserve its natural and architectural appeal while adding aesthetic improvements which keep the neighborhood current and vibrant. Improved use of common areas could achieve both of these objectives. Here are a few ideas:
  1. Community Garden – use a section of common area(s) for gardening. Possibly using container/sectional garden(s) which are tended to by individual households. (Not sure if this is against the Covenants)
  2. Improving the picnic area (next to the playground) with new picnic tables or a community swing.
  3. Build a gazebo near the pond(s) for family/community use.
  4. Facilitate greater coordination with adjacent neighborhoods regarding local preservation and development issues.
I hope this give you an idea of what I would wish to accomplish as a board member. Please let me know if you should need any additional information.
